Quality Of The Drinking Water


Drinking water is of greater importance in day to day life, but yet its quality makes the huge difference to intake water. Quality of water is referred to its physical, biological, chemical and radio logical characteristics.
Following are the basic parameters to check the quality of drinking water:
Oxygen content:  the amount of dissolved oxygen need to be checked, as most aquatic organisms in water require water to survive and grow. Some species in water require high dissolved oxygen content in water, other species like catfish, worms and many others do not require any dissolved oxygen content. Deficiency in oxygen content also leads to the death of juveniles and adults, a reduction may take place in growth, it may also lead to failure of eggs and harm the survival and it completely changes the presence of species present in a water body.
Temperature:  it is the measure of average energy molecules in water(kinetic energy), the measurement is done with the help of linear scale of degree Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit. The variation in temperature affects the chemistry of water and the functioning of the aquatic organisms.
The total quantity of oxygen dissolved in water, the rate of photosynthesis by aquatic organisms and plants, sensitivity in water due to toxic waste is given out by organisms, parasites and diseases, reproduction timing, migration are all influenced by the temperature.
Others:  few other parameters like 1) electrical conductivity or salinity (it is the ability of water to conduct an electrical current).
2) pH (it is the measure of acidic and basic levels of water).
3) Turbidity(it is the measure of suspended particles in the water).
 Importance:  drinking water is a fundamental need of every human. Hence, there is no compromise on it, it is obviously essential for hydration and for food production, at the same time sanitation is a equally important aspect and it is a complementary use of water. A lack of the sanitation not only just breed diseases, it can rob the human dignity.
As we say many times, right education is the right path for children and they make the strong pillars of the country, but the education is suffered when children miss school out of sickness due to the lack of the quality of the drinking water.
